Artist's Comments

[link] To part 2.

Well, I have a few things to say about this one.

Back when I first heard about the Endzone OC Battle Contest, I thought 'hell, I suck, but I may as well throw in my lot with an audition.'. This was 3 days before the deadline. I managed to draw everything, opting to do each panel on a seperate sheet of A4, then, with hours to go before the deadline, I discovered a fatal flaw in my plan.

I cannot use photoshop to save myself.

So back when round 4 was announced I thought I'd try and make my mark again, this time with a spectator entry. I still can't use Photoshop but having done all the panels together it mattered less (and explains why it isn't tidied up.) At this time I made the move back to University and I couldn't find power cable or the USB cable for my printer/scanner/photocopier. So I couldn't upload them. Total pain in the ass.

So now Round 4 is over and my Spectator Entry is late. But damnit, I'm proud of it, despite the slight mess it is. (I promise I will one day learn to use photoshop.)

So about the comic. It features two of my nameless roundheaded characters. The Guy (here seen in the updated version I used for the audition, though it was originally designed to look like me...maybe this is me talking to Sardonic Girl about my plan to enter?) and of course Sardonic Girl, because she's so fun to draw, and I lover her attitude.

I'm really proud of this because it involves alot of arm poses, so it's a mark of my improvement as an artist, and I'm especially proud of how my renditions of the competitors came out. I'm sorry I couldn't do everyone but as I'm cheering on Dood and Climber, I felt I should draw them. Dood and Seles were really fun to do, especially Dood, I love the expression he wound up with. I learnt a little about clothes doing his collar and hat too. Though I did forget to draw his face markings.

Climber and Skye were a different story. Skye was nerve-wracking because...well...he has so much hair! Ya see, the thing about my round-heads is that because they lack facial definition, they kinda rely on hair and eye shape to be recognisable (notice none of the cast repeat expressions.) Skye doesn't have as many defining points as the others, so I really had to try and capture his wild hair-style. As tricky as it was, I'm immensly proud of how it came out.
I love Climber's design, but I wasn't so fond drawing him because he allowed less room for my own personal style, as all I really had to do was give him a round head, and his eyes translated across pretty well too. Still, I liked getting the chance to draw him.

Vapour...I didn't really have much of a plan for this until I read about his defeat. Being pinned against the tower to be left for the pidgeons was just fabulous, and I figured it would be nice to give him a little love, if you can call this love.

Eventually I'll draw and post the fate of these two, given the rather...destructive conclusion of Dood's battle with Seles.

Good luck to everyone!
